Go on a bike tour, they're a great way to see the city.

Leave the main station and go under the right side of the huge tower that i forget the name of, there's a little shop there that does the tours. They take about 5 hours but an hour or so is in a beer garden eating so it's greeeaaattt.

Wombats is quality if you like big hostels (I stayed at the Vienna one as well) and if you are on your own as the bar is good and the views from the rooftop bar are quality though maybe not as appealing in Winter

Kreuzberg I think it is called has some quality bars think it is near the East side gallery but the other side of the river

Fat Tyre do bike tours all over Europe i think, I went on one in Paris years ago and it was pretty cool.

Theres also the 'Free Berlin Tour' which was pretty awesome, but i guess that depends alot on who your guide is. worth it nonetheless i reckon.

There is so much to do and so much to see in Berlin that I don't think I could even do it justice in one post.

Hostels - I stayed in Helter Skelter. There was a group of 4 of us and we had our own room, so I can't comment on the dorms. Having said that, it was FANTASTIC location, just off of Friedrichstrasse, 5 min leisurely walk to Under den Linden and the Brandenburg Gate.

nights out - I'd check out Friedrichshain or Oranienburger Strasse first.

I need to go baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!

Oh, and the big tower is the Fernsehturm = TV Tower.

I arrange group trips to Berlin for students and we have used the Helter Skelter and The Heart of Gold. We no longer use the Helter Skelter as it started to get a bit run down, but would highly recommend the Heart of Gold.

I went for last New Years and stayed in 'Hotel Motel One - Mitte'. This was fab, cheaper than a lot of the hostels and a brand new hotel right next to the u-bahn.

Hope that helps!
