Delhi Medical Elective |

| Hey peeps,
I am doing a medical elective in Delhi for a month in Feb next year. It's going to be in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) which I think is in the south of Delhi. I've got a friend with me but both of us had never been to India before (so yeah, i'm pretty scared!). Anyhoo, I couldn't find a cheap accommodation near AIIMS so I've booked a place in Smyle Inn (in Paharganj area) for a couple of weeks. I need advice on this pretty please: 1. Has anyone stayed there before? Good/bad reviews? 2. How do we travel from Paharganj to AIIMS? I thought there would be some sort of tram/light rail system but I'm not sure if this will be actively working by Feb. Of course, I welcome any suggestions/advice re Delhi/India in general. point number 2. There is no Metro going to AIIMS at the moment and doubt by Feb it will be ready. The cheapest and most uncomfortable way would be to travel by bus! (from Paharganj area). Or take a scooter, one way should cost around approx 130-160) rupees (assuming it's a fair price). If you're working, Paharganj may not be the best area to relax. Once you're there, hopefully you should be able to find decent cheap acommodation near AIIMs! |

Staying at Paharganj is ok as a temporary measure. It is obviously not the best places to be in Delhi. Moreover it is quite far from AIIMS. I could possibly make you get in touch with a girl I know in AIIMS who is doing her PhD there. Being south Delhi accommodation should be expensive around AIIMS. But am sure something can work out. There are lot many students staying in that area. Hersh |
