Depends on how long you want to wait before finding work and how long it takes to find work.

I'm landing in OZ in December after 3 weeks in Malaysia.

I'll be lucky to have the required amount for proof of funds should I be asked. but thats another matter.

I was aiming to have £3500 to get me going. But all depends on what you want to do before finding work.

Hey,

You need about £1000 a month to get by in OZ. If your happy to find work pretty much straight away then I guess you dont need a lot. But you do need £2k in a bank account or a return ticket booked to be allowed in the country.

I am hoping to have 5k after 3 weeks in the US.
I am also hoping to work as I can find it.

Hi,

Not speaking from personal experience but I've spoken to people who been over there recently and says its getting pretty expensive. A few people have said £1000 a month to just to cover basic food and living costs, this doesnt include trips or anything like that.

The simple answer from someone who is already here - shit loads

I know that the poor exchange rate doesn't help at the moment but it came as quite a shock to me how expensive everything is here.

I had originally planned to work for 6 months and then travel for 6 months but I don't think that is going to be possible.

Good luck with your travels.

to visit/stay in the cities sydney and melbourne and to actually do anything, and eat and drink more than baked beans your probably going to need over £1000 a month now.
outwith these cities prices are much better and its a more feasible option to live on that.

Jeezz thats depressing ...... are you actually able to earn more than a £1000?

Im planing on staying in big cities much but I also was hoping my 5-6k might last about 4 months with some trips.
