Hey guys

Wondering if anyone can pretty please give me some advice!

I'm planning to travel around se asia for 10 weeks starting in Feb, going to KL for 4 days and then heading to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Do I need to get a visa for malaysia if I'm only going for 4 days and have a flight out of there to thailand?

Will 4 days be enough to get my thai visa in KL or should I get that before I go?

Would love some help because I'm staying in Brisbane now for another 6 weeks and would like to get it all sorted before I move on.

Thanks xxx

How long are you goin 2 be in thailand 4? x

That's good about the Malaysian visa. I'm going to Thailand for a month, but I don't have a flight out cos I'm going overland to Laos, so I'll need to get my Thai visa before I head there.

Duno whether to get it in KL or Oz though?? x

Doesn't matter if your going over land or not. You have 30 days on single entry to thailand. You only require a visa if you are either spending more than 30 days in thailand or if you plan on entering more than once.

I am sorting a double entry visa for thailand when i get there. But you have 30days there before you need a visa. So you should be ok

I was sure that if you get to Thailand without a visa you need to have proof of flights leaving thailand? So I would need to get my visa before I go cos I'm going overland to Laos, so obviously don't have a flight out?

Printed my visa application off the thai embassy website in oz, so going to send it off soon

No mate.

You're only guaranteed the 30 days visa exemption if you can prove that you're leaving Thailand itself by air within those 30 days.

Most people get in OK without that proof, but there are occasions when the rule is enforced. Also, there are a good few airlines now that won't carry you to Thailand if you don't have either a valid visa or proof of onward flights from Thailand for within 30 days. We've had a couple of folks fall foul of this on these boards this year. One of them was refused carriage to Thailand by Qantas for not having either a visa or proof or onward flights for within the 30 days, so not getting at least one of these is something of a gamble.

Entering Thailand overland without a visa will only get you a 15 day visa exemption stamp these days. Technically, they should also ask you to prove that you're leaving Thailand by air within those 15 days also, but they very rarely do. It's only at the Aranyaprathet/Poipet border where a few folks have reported this rule being enforced.
