I was thinking of taking around £1500 but dunno if that will be enough. I know the strength of the THB is not like it was a few years ago and the prices of things have gone up too so unsure if that will be enough.

I took £1000 when i went travelling to Asia for 6 weeks during August/Sept 2009, and spent about £900 of it and that included going to the FMP.

I'd say you'd be more than fine with £1500 for 4 weeks.

that sound's like more than enough, you can do it really cheap if you cut out doind organised tours and shop around for the best deals.
we followed the bible (lonely planet) and found cheap accomodation and transfers all through, one peice of advice i'll give you though is if your on a long journey, always opt for the bus or train up a slight grade from cheap, 8 hours on a bus with no backrest is not fun
anyway good luck x
