Yes its something along those lines. There is a bit of debate about if you can apply and get it straight away or if you have to wait till the end of the tax year in April. Mite not be that much as you will only have worked 3 months but anything is better than nothing. I'm just gona fill out the forms and send them off when I get my p45 in January. If they say I have to wait till April then Ill get someone to resend it in April. I dont care about waiting as long as I'm getting some money.lol

Not sure how many of you this applies to but here goes. For anyone leaving jobs in England to go travelling(and not going back to work before april) you may have paid too much tax for the year.I will have.

Does this mean just England then? What about us cold folks in Scotland or 'North England' as the Americans say.

I'll be due some but no doubt my shithead payroll dept wont send it in time before i leave and it will be left up to my parents to sort, get confused over and mess it up so i think i can wave goodbye to that

I didn't have to wait until April to get it back. Mine arrived around March time I think. Took about 6 weeks to arrive.

HMRC shouldn't make you wait (if they telll you that then they are just being lazy and can't be arsed to process you claim, or more likely they have lost your P45!)...that's why you complete the P50 it's to state that you won't work again this tax year!

Before you sned anything to HMRC just ensure that you take photocopies as they have a pretty bad habit of just losing post and bare in mind that they usually have at least a two month backlog on all their post! So what with Royal mail and that you might get your refunds in time for when you return from travelling!
