This board is for all users of gapyear.com to provide feedback on any errors encountered as far as the site content and structure goes.

Do not:

1. Post anything here concerning problems with accounts
2. Post any general discussion topics here
3. Post anything that was already reported - read the board first!
4. Post any replies to the topic such as 'yes I saw this too'...

Do:

1. Post reports of any missing or broken links
2. Post reports of missing or messed up images
3. Provide a suitable subject when reporting ('read this' is NOT a suitable topic!).
4. Include a description of the place the error occurs (i.e. clubhouse - gapperslive - returned gappers page).

Note: any topics that have been locked are being worked through - unless the error is serious it probably will stay locked here for awhile until I can find the time to fix it.

Errors that have been fixed are deleted from this board.

Thanks for your assistance - the reporting of broken links and images allows us to make the site a more rewarding experience for all users.

Hi gappers!

This forum is for posting suggestions or requests that are gapyear.com website related.

Please post messages with a relevant heading - if you think that your suggestion warrants it, you can include a poll (this is the only messageboard you can do so).

Suggestions that affect the way other people will interact with the site (such as a spellchecker) or that will require a lot of work from me require a poll, as I will only consider such suggestions if there is a significant (more than 25 votes) and positive (75% agree) interest from the community.

Please do not post hundreds of replies saying 'good idea' or 'I want this too' - just use the polls for this purpose. If the person registering the idea didnt put up a poll, send them a personal message to ask them to do so.

If I agree with a suggestion, I will delete the message and add it to the 'Wishlist approved' post. If I disagree with a suggestion, I will post a reply explaining why and leave it on the boards for at least a few days before deleting.

Here is the list, add freely (first check to see if it has been reported!!).

Black is currently unassigned, Red is currently being worked on, Green is complete (will be removed next time I edit the board), and blue means it won't be ready before launch but is not really an issue. Don't assign colours, as that is my job!

Current errors:

1. No chat site.
2. Fix msg board time, or else make the default profile time +1hrs. (Pat) Turns out this was due to PHPbb not handling daylight savings, so users must individually set their time zones to GMT+1 in the site mechanics section..
3. Fix "look at another board" drop down on topic view in each messageboard. NOT in individual thread view - that works. (Pat)
4. Pm - could you make it so that when you receive one it shows the one you sent to provoke a reply, so you know what the context is?
5. From the all moderator pages, all the links to search, members list, faq are fudged. - can't figure out why, will look into this sometime. Not urgent though as it doesnt affect general users.
6. Discrepancy between "who's online" in your buddy list, and "who's online" at the bottom of the messageboard overview. [this is caused by the site and messageboards being different systems - the messageboards show you who is currently using the boards rather than who is online. Will change the text on the messageboards so that it makes this clear.]
7. Polls screw up if you try to edit them. (Pat) details please pat...
8. Search page for forums is messed up (too wide) (Pat)
9. Need to reduce the size of the 'locked' graphic on locked posts
10. Cookie discrepancy - the portal system and messageboards use different cookies, resulting in timeout errors and confusion with functions such as 'view posts since last login' and also with the members online being misreported between the main site and messageboards. This has been hacked now - what happens is whenever you leave the messageboards for another part of the site it loses your session ID and thus this is not really an error.
11. The show/hide buttons on the navigation blocks don't do anything.
12. Posts deleted do not subtract from page division
totals

13. 'Recommend us' doesnt seem to be working - as far as I know this is working now, along with the 'feedback' option which sends us an email.
14. Various problems with voting in the Reviews section, resulting in hostelwatch submissions being delayed. Fixed.

jez, when posts are deleted, they still remain sort of within the thread, as the thread thinks that if the deleted post was stlll there, say it flows onto another page, but when you go onto that page, its empty - no posts exist - as the post the froum thinks should be n that page has been deleted.

please can we have a spell check, it really pisses me right orf when people can't spell.

The most mis-spelt word on the forums has to be "definitely." Could you just write a script that changes definately definetely etc?

Sorry for grumbling, there's my bone of contention aired.

Hello All!

Well....this is what constant days sitting on a Sainsbury's checkout has come to, I've dealt with hours upon hours of smiling and generally being nice to annoying people, I've helped god knows how many people to find where Golden Syrup is and I cant say how many "...this is a staff announcement.."'s I have heard! But finally those days are over, and finally im ready to do something a little bit more fun than all those things rolled into one!....I think this sums up everything......YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! YES YES YES!!!

Right, so at this moment im sounding quite excited...bit of history on me, last year I went to Spain for 2 weeks (woo hoo!)...That was the first time I have left this country, don't laugh! In my entire life every single year apart from last was spent summer-holidaying in Devon.... unfortunately! Now fair play to Devon, its a very nice place with good folk...but there's only so much it can offer, and in all fairness...it doesn't have anything left to offer to me, sorry! I have only ever been on a plane once...for 2 hours, well.... I've been in a flight simulator...does that count?!...I cant remember it taking off, or landing anywhere in particular so I'll ignore that, but now im about to spend over 50 hours sitting in one over a 5 month period...this is an achievement in itself I feel!

Ooooppps, ive waffled...so here is my boring part (not that the last bit was packed with excitement!), im Ben Andrew...aged 18 from Bedfordshire, I finished my A-Levels last year thank god, got A, B, C, now that is an achievement and have spent the last 9 months or so working in Sainsburys, in Biggleswade (shop there now...its good) to save up for a RTW trip with my mate Tony. STA travel are the main reasons we are quite organized, they've helped us to book nearly 5 months of traveling...we start on March 4th in Bangkok, we then head to Sydney and for 2 months we will slowly make our way up to Cairns using the 'OZ Experience' buses...we then head to New Zealand before finally finishing our trip with an 8-Day Inca Trail in Peru from Lima to Cuzco! Yay!

Wow.... your still reading, that's a good sign! I wont go on too much more as you may now hate me, and just want me to get outta here and start telling you good stuff like seeing Dolphins and eating dogs or something.... don't worry, it's all to come...hopefully not the eating dog bit though! Now many people do the whole 'its a real chance to find myself' bit, well it isn't for me...well maybe it is, but I'll decide if I've found myself when I get back, for now the trips reasoning is simple.... there is more than the U.K...and I wanna see it! Simple eh? I think so. For now I will leave, I can feel your attention starting to wane and the lure of other things that I wont mention on the net are creeping in! So if you feel like you know me like a brother now and you want to find out more about how im getting on then check back to this excellent website as much as possible and hopefully I will be sending a lot more cool stuff back...and then turn those logs into 'Ben Andrew : One Small Step for Man' - my exclusive travel diary, hopefully available in all good book shops early 2003!

Goodbye!

Ben (doing all the writing) & Tony (his comrade in traveling fun...not writing as of yet!)

Hey Hey!!!

This is Ben, finally communicating 4 days into mine and Tony's gap travels!!! We have at last found an internet cafe that is dirt cheap and we are abusing it!!! So whats happened so far i hear a few of you cry!?!?!!

Well...last time we spoke (well... i spoke) i was just about to leave, and now im on my 4th day in Bangkok... something has obviously happened! ....thats right... we'vejumped on a plane, spent 11 hours sitting there watching quite bad films etc and arrived in sweaty Bangkok!! From there we got an aiport taxi and cruised through the "ghetto" into our hotel! I really cant believe that im here in Bangkok, its just so amazing!!! Ok, so at first i was so scared that me and Tony didnt even leave our hotel rooms.... we felt much more at ease on our first day by enjoying the mini-bar, the air conditioning and the minimal playlist of MTV Asia to get outside... but when we did.... WOW!!!

Our 1st night we decided to sit with a massive map and basically plan where we wanted to go in this extremely large city...and on day two after much deliberating we managed to haggle our way into a taxi and onto a long boat to see the Grand Palace!! The boat was an experience in itself, we saw the river markets, the shanty type towns and the temples all side by side..and the smells were just amazing! After that we headed for the now famous Kao San Road... (thanx to Mark Ollie and Owen for helping me to decide on going there) and this place is tourist heaven... which helped actually as we were surrounded by those like minded people you hear soooooo much about!!

Anyways... its been all great so far, apart from seeing an Elephant wandering the streets and riding a Tuk Tuk (argghhh!!) its not all disimilar to London... you have the high rise posh buildings in the business area, mixed with both touristy areas and the smaller rougher housing parts.... but its just the little things that make it seem weird... like how friendly and helpful the Thai people are, the way restaurants differ with there styles and how when riding the Sky Train it seems like the London Underground... until you realise that its much nicer!!! and the fact that everywhere you look there is a Thai person instead of a Englishman!! doh!

Day 3 took us to this very cheap Internet cafe, near Patong... its called "The Cafe" on Surawong Street... so check it out... its great! then we went to the snake farm, very educational and i even braved holding a Burmeise (spelling) Python!!! And finally we went to STA Travel to sort out leaving Bangkok, and so here we are... our final day in the city as later on we shall be catching a train and making our way south to reach the beautiful island of Ko Samui.... im looking forward to sun, sea and sand.... and maybe a bit of seediness! hehe... just kidding, its pretty hard to avoid in Bangkok... especially when your first taxi driver hands you a brochure for a certain type of club.... that shall remain nameless for now!!!

Anyways, hope the UK is just as fun.... i bet it isnt!! and hopefully we shall be in contact soon... when and wherever that maybe!!

So Long!!

Ben and Tony

Well hello everyone!!! Its Ben here writing from sunny Ko Samui!!!!! now where did I leave you all last time?!

Well you must've been on the edges of your seats as my last diary was a day before myself and Tony were about to head off to this beautiful island! and now we are here and on our last day!!! (sob sob) But its been so good that i just havent had the time to be locked up in a net cafe! So....whats been going on?!

Well, after the grueling 10 hour bus journey and 3 hour ferry we finally arrived, the very first thing that hits you is the bloody sun!! with Bangkok we were ok as the smog generally stops it from getting too hot and sunny but here.... its a different story altogether! And that sun was my very downfall by Monday afternoon as i lay burnt to a crisp in my beach hut in ALOT of pain! everyone feel sorry for me now!!! hehe!

But anyways. like the trooper i am... i soldiered on and through this week, apart from "catching some rays" Tony and I have been to the aquarium, rode Elephants on the Chaweng Elephant tour (very scary...going downhill betters anything at Alton Towers!) we went to the crocodile farm where we were introduced to 'Mr Jumbo' a very large croc indeed and played mingolf!!! Despite the sun you can cram a fair bit in on this amazing island, its still pretty touristy but that doesnt matter when your in such a nice location!

For 153 pounds we booked 7 nights in a beach hut and had return bus and ferry transfer, so we thing we did pretty well there!!!! Last night we took in some Thai Boxing and visited our new favourite local called "Tropical Murphys", a very nice Irish pub that serves great food.. .a Ben recommendation if ever i saw one!!

Anyways, Monday signals a new beginning as we begin our journey to OZ via Bangkok airport, so you will no doubt hear from me soon! This is ben, signing out!
