 HELP!! Flights...

Hi All,

Having slight nightmare with plans.

Original plan was to go to Thailand and travel round/teach for 4 months and then fly on to Australia on a working holiday visa for a year.

However, I've been told that there is absolutely NO flexibility on return flights if you want to stay away for over a year. This is so frustrating....I can't be the only one this has happened to.

I've looked in to getting to one way flights but that's crazy expensive.
I've also considered sharing the year between Thailand and Oz....but the working visa is for a year....there's no point using it if Im going to waste it.

Can someone pleassssssssssse shed some light? There MUST be a way round this....

Mine is the same - you just have to ring up nearer the time to change the return date. Can cost about £35ish but I was told to try the airline first and see if they change it for free because of the silly year rule.

Yes when booking a flight you have to book a specific date return flight, i think this is for ticketing issuing purposes (inc issuing an eticket). the same applies to a RTW ticket as you have to put best guess dates for every flight though these can be changed (most RTW tickets only valid for 12 months tho)

This can be changed nearer the time for generally a small fee. However don't leave it to the last minute as depending on the airline may charge you the difference between the cost you paid and the cost of the flight you want. Confirm with the specific airline before you pay for the ticket that they allow to change

When changing dates deal with the airline direct, as STA, Flight centre etc often charge a fee for this service

Book through someone else if Flight Centre are being stupid

I though that if you have a working visa for Oz, and proof of at least 2k in the bank (a bank statement) then you didnt necessarily need a return ticket, because you can prove you have the funds to buy one when you want to leave after working?

Either way, ive just got my tickets to Oz for Jan, and a flight out from Sydney to Malaysia after (as im only going on a tourist visa, so i have to have a flight out of the country) but i booked with Qantus, and they'v given me a flexi ticket, so i can call and change the date if i need to for a small admin fee. Booked though Dial-a-flight...they were really helpful x
