Hey all

I'm sure this is nothing new on this board but I'm looking to do a season this winter, probably as a chalet host/assistant. I'm all new to this, and have only skiied the once; but I really fancy the challenge! I'm interested in Alpine and American/Canadian companies loactions, and at the moment I'm just trying to find out as much as I can.

Could anyone who's done this give me a brief run down of 1) which company you worked for 2) how would you rate them, good points and bad points welcome! 3) where were you based 4) and how you found it.

Also any tips, hints and pointers would be very welcome!

Hi there,

I stayed in Whistler last season and worked at the 4 Seasons doing room service and other stuff. I stayed in Whitegold (just outside the village) with a company called Base Camp and did loads of skiing in between.

The resort is amazing and speaks for itself whilst the house I lived in was good fun as the company does ski instructor courses as well so had big parties and organised loads of activities.

If you are looking for a ski instructor course, seriously look no further than SKI LE GAP. I know there have been a lot of posts in reply to you question, but genuinely, ski le gap are the original, biggest and best company to go for.

I did it in 2006, and since have been on many ski trips where i have worked as a ski instructor.

Celebrating its 16th anniversary in 2009 and having trained up more than 2,300 Gappers in its time Ski le Gap truly is the original ski instructor course. Every January, more than 150 eager Gappers jet off to Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Canada, with one aim: to become ski or snowboard instructors. What awaits them are the best ski instructors in the world, a fantastic resort in which to train, and 4 hours of tuition a day, 5 days a week, all of which ensure fast progress. Indeed the 100% pass rate for CSIA level 1 serves as a testament that the Ski le Gap teaching method works! Being an expert skier is not a prerequisite for this course – indeed many Gappers arrive having never skied before in their lives and end up being qualified ski instructors.

Ski le Gap offers either a 1 month intensive programme running from the end of November, or a 3 month programme, running from January to the end of March.

I would be happy to answer any querires should you have them. Drop me an email on j.m.w.fairbairn@dur.ac.uk
