 Treble Cone or Coronet Peak?

I am currently researching the prospect of doing a ski season in New Zealand in 2010. After I obtain my instructor qualifications this coming March I was hoping to use them in New Zealand during the 2010 season, or at least work in a resort and ski in my spare time.

I've been looking at a variety of resorts on the southern island and both Coronet Peak and Treble Cone sound good. Do any of you guys have any views or opinions on either resort? Which you prefer if you have visited both? What you liked and didn't like?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks alot.

Hey there, been to Treble cone a few times and coronet once, it really depends on what you're after. Like for treble cone you'd be based in Wanaka whereas for coronet you'd be in queenstown so depends on which of those towns you'd prefer to be based in. Also, treble cone has much more challenging terrain and is pretty an awesome mountain where as coronet has alot more intermediate stuff, although still has its share of challenging slopes. i think coronet is a bit more commercialised and may be busier but i'm not sure, it all depends on what experience you're after.

Thanks alot for your reply. Treble Cone and Wanaka sounds like a really interesting and beautiful place, and probably my favourite of the two from what I've read. However I presume that Coronet Peak would potentially be easier to gain an instructor's job with more people (bigger ski school?) and more beginners with slightly less challenging terrain.

yep that sounds about right, if you just dont want to miss out on the skiing at treble cone then don't worry cos its easy to make a day trip to ski there, its only about an hour to an hour and a half at the most from queenstown so you could easily work at coronet and then ski on days off at treble cone.
