 Drinking on Doxycycline

PostPosted: Tue Aug 11, 2009 1:33 pm Reply to Message Reply with quote

Is this advisable? I'm in a dilemma about what anti-malerials I need for my trip to SE Asia!

Doxycyline looks good and cheap, but will drinking render it useless? There is no way I'm going to be sober when taking these!

Is there an alternative that is OK with alcohol and also cheap?

Thanks

I had the same thought but according to my mum she thinks there is only one antibiotic (which doxycycline is) which you cannot drink whilst taking so I'm gonna drink wen I'm on them!

Yea I think you can drink on them i.e. it won't make you ill or anything but I've heard this can reduce the effectivness of the drug (fighting malaria)....?

It's the most popular anti-malarial, I think, and if the KSR of a night-time is anything to go by, plenty of people drink on them.

I'm sure it will be fine.

Hi guys!

I took Doxycyline on and off for 6-8 months whilst in malaria zones and didn't have many problems with it. Only once did I feel sick and had a few weird thoughts... I think that was because I took it without eating!

I was drinking at the same time and didn't have any ill effects.

Thanks,

buggers, i went in to find out and she said it would be about 30-40 per prescription (I had my bf's prescription too) and travel pharm was about 20 quid per prescription which works out at 12p per tab! She screwed me over!
