 Plastic Health Card?!!!

PostPosted: Wed Sep 9, 2009 2:58 pm Reply to Message Reply with quote

Hi All!,

Ive recently heard about this plastic card, to which all your medical details can be uploaded to and is ideal for when you're travelling, if anything happens, doctors anywhere in the world can access the information.

Has anybody else heard about his? If yes, could you tell me more about it, and where I can get it in the UK? As I am going travelling across New Zealand in December and something like this would be ideal to take along, for sure put my mother at ease ;)

Thanks

Are you talking about the medicare card? If so there is a thread alerady http://www.gapyear.com/boards/index.php?op=vt&c=9&f=70&t=443968&o=0#444006

If not, apologies. I don't think I have heard of anything like that, apart from your E111 card which is valid in Europe only.

Thanks for the reply, it's not the Medicard, nor the E111
It's ment to upload all your personal medical records, so if something happens and you're anywhere in the world but have this card, doctors over there would know your medical history..

Sounds like a great idea but can't say I've heard of it. Have you asked your GP? Perhaps it's a new thing that a lot of people aren't aware of yet or maybe you have to request it from your doc.

I did a quick search on google for a international health card and this is what I found. http://hinbit.com/content/health-card-international. It looks like it is not avaible yet unless it is called something else or this is an old site.

Ive got one of those cards - "Healthecard", I live in St Albans, Hertfordshire, and my GP has the software that updates my card, everytime i visit the card is installed into the USB port and gets updated. Apparently there are a few surgeries around the country that have this system.
It's convinient to have, I keep it in my wallet and at least when Im travelling I know if something happens, I have all my medical details on hand.
It's called Healthecard - http://www.healthecard.co.uk/

Thanks ! I've checked it out, it's great! I'll have to enquire with my GP whether they'll be installing this system. I live in South London and not sure if they have it anywhere near me.

You can contact the HealtheCard people and find out if there's an active surgery near you.
