Air Asia X: London to Sydney (via KL) coming soon...

PostPosted: Tue Jun 9, 2009 3:27 pm Reply to Message Reply with quote

Promo fares from KL to Sydney for around £89 each way.

Get a good London to KL fare (also with Air Asia X), and you'll be larfing. London to KL has been as low as £79 already this year.

I'll put a note on here just ahead of the Sydney fare launch date.

Please let me know about this one Tom, looks like I'll be giving Air Asia a whirl depending when this route gets launched.

Just a quick update on this...

Air Asia X have just announced that their plans to fly Sydney from KL are on hold for the time being, because they can't get route approval from Malaysian authorities.

Basically, their sister company Air Asia owes the Malaysian authorities a fair bit of cash, and even though that's not really much to do with Air Asia X, they've still been held up because of this debt.

But they have said instead that they'll be upping their numbers of flights to the Australian aiports that they already serve, so expect more flights and more cheaper fares to Melbourne, Perth and Gold Coast.

Good news still. More cheap seats to Oz, basically.

So, they've now added two extra flights a week between KL and Gold Coast, taking the service to 6 times a week.

And there's some promo fares to mark the launch of this increase in frequency:

"To celebrate the launch of the additional flights AirAsia X is offering seats for sale from $149 ex Gold Coast to Malaysia and are on sale until August 9, for travel between October 20, 2009 and January 10, 2010. Prices include airport taxes and reflect AirAsia's recent decision to scrap administration fees entirely."

For anyone who's looking at a cheap way of getting to Sydney, then Air Asia are still a cheap way of getting there, even though they've been delayed with their plans to fly there directly.

Greyhound and Premier can get you from the Gold Coast to Sydney for AUD $90ish, so that's £45. If you get a flight with Air Asia from London to KL and then KL to Gold Coast for under £300-or-so, you can then take the bus to Sydney and get there for less than most other airlines will charge you for flying to Sydney direct from the UK on a one way ticket.

Just an idea.
