 It’ll be lonely this Christmas...

Hi everyone,

The Xmas and New Year holiday is fast approaching. Here in remote WA most of the stores (all 3 of them) have got some sort of Xmas merch on display. I know that there are already numerous posts on here about peoples Xmas plans but here is another one:

I have made some good friends in Oz and am having a good time so far. However we are all going our separate ways in December which means that I am going to be spending Xmas alone.

This will be the first time that I will be away from home over Xmas. This thought makes me really sad and I have been thinking of flying back to the UK for a couple of weeks. However the flights are ridiculously expensive.

The idea of spending Xmas with a load of random strangers at such a family orientated time of the year seems weird. Is anyone else worried about this? I know that there are loads of solo travellers on here but surely most people will have met others to hang around with.

Are there any other people in the same situation? What are your thoughts on this?

Hey Catman,

I'm afraid I can't offer much help as I'm not going to Oz until next year but one thing that struck me as I read your post is that you say you've met some good friends. I know you go on to say that you're going your separate ways at the beginning of December but just think how you made friends with them, and I'm sure you'll have no trouble meeting others!!!

Best of luck x

I was wondering about that - I have a pass to go from Cairns to Melbourne and don't particularly want to rush it. Does anybody know if Surfers Paradise is good at xmas for travellers? Or is Brisbane better? Thanksx

Why don't you try finding somewhere to wwoof over xmas? Just cos its a holiday farm work doesn't stop. That means you'll get to spend xmas in a nice family environment
