Hey people, I found out great advice and must pass it on...

I am wanting to do a sea turtle project and have been looking into different companies that run these projects, and they all seem very expensive, i even found one fairly cheap (GoEco) and thought great!! I then found a girl on facebook who had actually done one of these projects with goeco and it was great but she basically paid all her money for Goeco to act as a 'travel agent' and that the real projects are run by a charity called 'WIDECAST' and they do not charge excessive amounts. I googled them and they only charge £10per night to cover your food and accomodation!! I think this is fab that ive finally found a project that actually is non-profit.. so if your interested then def look up Widecast!!

Hope this helps, i know it helped me!!

hi Ashi, I found it difficut to find cheap sea turtle conservation ones as well(probably because alot of them seem to be covered by big companies to get the volunteers!)

The best thing to do is to go through the conservation organisation itself.

This summer I volunteered in Greece with sea turtles and the Non Government Organisation (Archelon) is non profit

www.archelon.gr

It was 150euros to take part for as many months as you want (28days minimum) and once yr out there its only 30euros a week for all yr food and water!! and its basically the same as what all these £2000+ projects are offering! You get to work with the turtles at night watching em lay, map out the nests in the morning, protect the beaches, inform tourists, save injured ones, go swimming, sunbathing, drinking.....

It was brilliant!

Awesome - I was looking for something like this which wasn't £1000+!!! I have joined Ecoteer (£10 to join, most of the projects are free or very cheap, but you cover flights etc)...
Also found www.volunteerlatinamerica.com, which sounds great although you have to buy their volunteer guide (£20) to be able to do any projects!
I'm looking for something like this, marine conversation stuff - but my boyfriend really wants to dive as well, so if anybody knows of any reasonable deals involving diving/marine research and conversation, or where diving is available in spare time, then please let me know
