 Yomps 6month Explorer and Divemaster

My name is Sophie and I have just spent the past nine months living in Venezuela.

After a lot of research on the internet, I chose a travel company called Yomps who are based in Brighton, as they offered two combined courses which together suited exactly what I wanted to do.

The six month explorer is a course that is broken up in to various things; trips, volunteer work, work experience and learning Spanish. I also chose a ten week diving program which combined Spanish classes as well, both of which have been fantastic and an experience I will never forget.

The highlight for me within the six month explorer was going on all the different trips which are available, from kayaking through crystal clear waters, hiking through jungles encountering wild animals and scenery which is just beyond words. It is a chance to escape normality and stay with the indigenous people that take you miles away from any conventional living. It provided me with an opportunity that truly opened my eyes and made me appreciate the beauty, culture and diversity of the country.

However, at times the trips can prove a tough test of your mental and physical strength, and as a result this is certainly not for the faint hearted! Although if you are anything like me any adventure or experience which has an element of danger only adds to the excitement!. After my six months on the explorer, I then went on to do a divemaster course which involved diving in and around some of the most incredible sites where you can see a beautiful range of fish, coral reefs, stingrays and if you’re really lucky, turtles!.

If you enjoy endless adventure and daily excitement then I would highly recommend Venezuela for its breathtaking scenery and huge range of opportunities. I have had the experience of my life over the past nine months, which is why I am returning there for (at least) another three on an internship with Yomps – a dream come true! Hopefully I will also have the opportunity to see even more of South America, for its culture, music and surroundings will leave you breathless and wishing for more!
