I'm thinking about doing Summer Camp in America in Summer 2010 - because I'll be old enough then - and I was wondering if someone who's already been could tell me a bit more about it.

I'm not particularly sporty - does that matter?

If someone could give me some advice on where's best to go etc. that would be appreciated.

Also - if anyone is going/thinking about it in 2010 - let me know, yeah?

Alannah

I did this back in 2006 and 2007 and my advice would be to apply as soon as applications open in September - 2 of my friends did this last September and both were placed before Christmas!!!

If you still haven't been placed by January/February time and the company you're going with host camp directors fair (CA and CCUSA certainly do) I'd go to one of those. You can in a sense pick which camp you'd like to work at, rather than waiting for the organization to sort one for you (which may not have been what you ideally wanted) though you obviously have to convince them to hire you, and you can also try and convince them to hire you for a specific role... again the companies don't always take that into consideration. I have a friend who wanted to be a general counselor, but CCUSA offered her a job working in Circus Skills.

General Counselor positions are the most popular and get snapped up the quickest... esp. at the directors fairs so if you have your heart set on this, get there as soon as the doors open!

As for 'where' in the states, this shouldn't really matter... though that said I did want to avoid Florida if it was possible as I didn't want to be working in tropical type weather. What's more important is the job role you get, the age group you'll be working with, the type of camp etc.
