 Surfer In Need Of Advice

I have just finished uni and am planning to go and work and surf in the States and then travel to S. America, S. Africa, Thailand and Oz. Can anyone advise me on the best places to visit and work if i want to meet other like minded people rather than just paying loads to go on a surf camp. Does anyone have any worthwhile job suggestions?

Cheers

i would recommend a stop in costa rica and panama. great surf. best I have seen. lots of places to discover if you take a bit of a walk. costa rica surfing is good on both sides. depends o what time of year you go. you can get boards out there for pretty cheap (depending on what area you are in) I got a custom made board for $80.. sweet. going to use it this weekend!

In South Africa you need to head to the Wild Coast, and parts of the Garden Route. There is good surf in Plettenburg Bay and Jeffries Bay on the Garden Route, but I would suggest Cintsa and Coffee Bay in the Wild Coast - much more remote, but with good hostels by the beach, and opportunities to work - the places I stayed at both villages had surf lessons available. Also, the KwaZulu Natal coast is a tad warmer and also has good surf.

Always check for job opportunities in hostels.

There are some surf spots in thailand, the one I know is in Phuket on Kata beach but it depends on the time of year you are going the waves are best between august - september time. I rent my boards from www.phuketsurf.com and you can rent for a week. There are a few people who travel from all over the place to meet up in these months, really strong sense of community. rooms are pretty cheap too you can have a room for about 8quids a night in low season.
