Hi I have been working as an au-pair for a week. I came out on a working holiday visa and I didn't need to have an x-ray or anything. I'm not sure if it's that easy if u want to work in a childcare center but I'm sure u only need to show prof that your vacinations are up to date.
If u need any help just ask and I will try to help u find out.

Hi, late I know but you don't need to have an xray for the visa unless you have been to certain countries, like South Africa. BTW check out what you could do in Australia with Lattitude. http://www.lattitude.org.uk/Australia-GapYear/

im going to aus in dec, and am a childrens nurse so thought i might try that in aus, i have had to have full medical, bloods and chest xray, 2worked out really expensive- around £500 inc cost of visa! and u can only have it done at approved clinics so depending where u live might b a trek! i wouldnt have it done unless its absolutely nesessary! im starting to think a bar job might b a better option.....
