I hear there might be a good elephant camp in Laos

What ever you do dont bother with a company called Starfish if your intrested in working closely with elephants.
I'm with them right now and for £800 you get to spend 4 weeks in Surin North East Thailand (food and return transfer back to BKK Not included) and in those 27 or so days you get to spend all of 4 days with the elephants!
Even that experience is only just riding around on them like Ponies! Not overly happy bunny!

On the flip side they seem to to a good community development and teaching program. but I realy love animals more than people so this was a real let down for me! Company doesnt seem to think I should have a problem with this situation, not what I expect from an English run company based in Thailand!

On a more posative note theres a place in Chaing Mai called Tiger Kingdom where you get to work (realy work with) TIGERS! I contacted them while I was in Chaing Mai (North Thailand) and asked if I could do some Volunteering and hay presto after a bit of an interview they agreed.

You have to work with customers a lot to, but you get to spend all day every day with the Tigers. Touching, feeding, training, learing about tigers in captivaty. I loved this place. The people are really lovely, they even threw me a party when I left!

Guess what....heres the second best thing (the first being the fact that you get to be with the tigers!!)....it was FREE!!!!!

Just send an email to Pi Pim at joliepim@gmail.com, tell her that Jenny Wickett mentioned doing Volunteering there and they should get back to you after a little while.

Good luck

Try to find the information that the www.realexperiencethailand.com. Here they have a volunteering program working to help animals and the environment. And a project to encourage local community participation in conservation in cooperation with volunteers.

Hi,

I'm going to book a placement with POD to work with animals in Thailand early next year. They also have a great value elephant programme and i've seen really good reviews for them.
Their website is: www.thepodsite.co.uk

Hope that helps
