Anyone travel with GVI before? I'm going to South Africa in February on a 5 week conservation project. it's costing me $3490 (USD), but I don't think you can put a price on helping animals and gaining that experience. Anyone have similiar experiences in South Africa with other companies? How was it!?

I went to India with GVI it was a great experiance, i mean once u got over the culture shock it was good. U have to realise though that ur not having ur program with GVI workers but through another organisation, which is sponsored through GVI.
but it was an amazing experiance thats for sure

Hey there...Danielle is correct in that GVI work with partners in India that we arrange volunteers for, however, the South Africa program is actually run by GVI on the ground. About 65% of the programs on the GVI website are created and run on the ground by GVI with local communities (GVI have about 250 staff on the ground in the over 30 countries). Hope you have a good time Nikki...I was fortunate enough to be in South Africa last year with GVI and became involved in the rescue of a Rhino calf that had been attacked by hyeenas...some amazing memories for me on the expedition!

Wow! So you did the same one I'm doing next year? Which site were you at? Did you do the 5 day in the mountain part?
How was the camp? What was your favourite part?
Sorry to overload on questions, I just haven't come across anyone who's done it before!

I visited both sites - both very different and unique in their own right - must admit I preferred Venetia as it was a bit more wild!

I also got to head up to the mountain phase - which is located in one of the most tranquil places I have ever been! I think the best part would be the staff pointing out the small things - you really start to understand the whole workings of busy life!

I went to the Seychelles not long ago which was a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
They've got a new facebook page now which is a good way to meet other people who are going on your trip or who have been already to answer your questions:
