Hi Becky

Check out www.ecoteer.com they have loads of cheap projects in South and central america.

I would heavily recommend them and had a great time on a turtle project in costa rica spending only $10 per day.

Hey! Yeah these things can be a really crazy price but then I guess it depends what is included in the costs and can you really put a price on the support a good organisation would give you when travelling (for the first time????) in a new culture? Look out for all-inclusive fees and avoid the big companies - try smaller not-for-profit organisations like www.icye.org.uk

big gap year companies (cough real gap) are there to make profit - i mean £1000 for a month is extortionate in comparision to the volunteer organisation real gap takes you to charging the same project for half the price or less. try looking on facebook at companies found on the web and youll often find pages set up. you can then contact people who have been on the volunteer placements and they can give you advice.
