 expedition leadership funding

Hi,

I am looking to start training as an expedition leader.
I would like to take part in the 6 month training course with Trek-Force, which costs at least £6550.

Does anybody know of any good funding that could support me.

I will be using this training when I begin working as a school teacher, as I plan on working during holidays as an expedition leader for school expeditions. I know somebody who has done this, and they have advised I do the correct training.

Please help? It is a lot of money to raise!

Dont mean to put a damper on your plans, trekforce are a good organization - very professional. But the 'Expedition Leader' package they have put together is not worth paying for, its been marketed in a very strange way.

I see why you want the training as such - but it would be more worth your while getting a mountain leader qualification and signing up for an expedition as a volunteer. If you've got expedition experience and an ML certificate your good to go. I know for a fact that no one who is currently working for Trekforce ever paid to go through such training and I suspect as much for Greenforce. The paid staff at Raleigh seem to be prevalently ex-army.

I'm not sure when your planning on doing this - your profile says your 22 - but if your 25+ then you can join a Raleigh International expedition as staff and get trained prior to the expedition for just over 1k(last time I checked).

There's also the organization, World Challenge... they will take absolutely anyone(sometimes reflected in the work they do). It's pretty standard that most people you find running expeditions for other organizations, got their foot in the door by leading a world challenge expedition..

I've digressed slightly, but what I am meaning to say is, don't pay for that sort of training, its free elsewhere and as much as I would back Trekforce - that package really is a rip off and purely a commercial venture for them.
