Anybody have any advice on a CELTA or similar???

Hey,

I believe that a CELTA is a good way to learn the skills you need to teach english to people, and that it is a well recognised qualification.

I would love to do this, but with traveling, budget is a bit tight, I would encoperate this into my travel plans, go to country where I will get a good course and not be ripped off..

Has anybody does this sort of thing, or know anything about it??

I don't have A levels... or degree etc, so i realise that may affect my chances also????

Any advice or info would be great!!!

thanks guys

xx

CELTA as far as I am aware is the best english teaching qualification available, as it's run by Cambridge University. If you get that you can command a great job and a better salary than others in some cases.

I did a TEFL qualification last year as part of my travels, a bit like you want to do I guess. I went to Thailand last year and first I studied for a month to pass the course, then had a 6 week holiday to chill out! The course was quality and really in depth... it helped me brush up on my grammar no end, and I had to teach some classes ranging from 9 year olds to adults in their twenties. It was a great experience and I can fully recommend it. That course cost me about £500 with TEFL Krabi... and it's about £1000 to do in the UK I believe. After buying the flight to Thailand, it costs about the same it's pretty much a no brainer really.... may as well do it in a tropical paradise

Now on the back of that qualification and backed up by a degree I have got a job teaching in South Korea which starts in April. I'm nervous about it, but after the experience I gained on the course I feel I can do it and become a good teacher.... but I definitely need to brush up on my grammar again

Hope this helps a bit. What is it you see yourself doing? only problem is that you wouldn't be able to work legally in most Asian countries as immigration normally requires a degree. I believe it's easy to find work in Europe without a degree though.
