I am 29 and I will have completed my contractual obligation to the Canadian Forces in May 2010 and plan on taking a 14-month RTW. The military changed my pension/benefits package 6 years into my service (bastards). Originally, I would be able to complete 20 years of service and be entitled to an immediate annuity pension, but they did away with that option and now I have to complete 25 years of service for an immediate annuity pension. So, I was left with the decision of signing on to complete 25 years - and get nothing in return but maybe a handshake, or get out of the Navy and recieve about half of the money I should actually be getting for completing my contractual obligation which I originally signed. I'll get PAID $18k to leave the navy, so I really have no choice do I? Pissed with how I got screwed over, I'm taking that money and about $32 k more to travel the world. Loose itinerary as follows:
S. America: May 16 (confirmed start Buenos Aires) - end August
Africa/Middle East: Sept - end October
India/Nepal - November - Mid December
New Zealand - Mid December - Mid Jan
SE Asia - Mid Jan - end March
Japan - April - mid April
TransSiberian Beijing - Moscow via Mongolia - May - end June
Eastern Europe - July - end August.
Currently in the planning stages for S. America.
