Hi Guys,
I am about to head away with VSO for a year volunteering in Mongolia, and if you are really interested in volunteering long term, or getting a foot in the door in the world of international development VSO is a fabulous organisation. There are 2 programmes aimed at young people (18-25), Youth For Development and Global Exchange. I am going on the YfD programme
All your expenses are paid - flights, visas, injections and a salary while you are in country. You are working on a sustainable project tailored to your specific interests and skills, living and working with locals and getting great training to make sure you are prepared to go away.
There is a request that you try to fundraise £900 before you go but I know a number of people who have not made the full amount and your placement is not determinative on the amount of funding you achieve.
If you want to talk about VSO, the YfD programme or the interview process please PM me I am more than happy to talk about it.

Yeah I'd love to do that in a couple of years; I'm currently working in international development and gaining experience in programme management, but I need to be patient and make the most of my current job before I can go travelling and do the VSO.

Unfortunately I'll be 26 by then so will have missed out on the youth programmes... damn.
