What size back pack for 10 month trip?

PostPosted: Tue Sep 29, 2009 7:20 pm Reply to Message Reply with quote

What litre bag should I take for a 10 month trip? I did a practice pack in a small back pack and it was full up and it weighed more than I do!

I have seen those back packs with weels on the bottom - are they reliable?

Any suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks

J

Hey J,

Im pretty much in the same situation as yourself, apart from i have been given a rucksack to borrow (65 litre) with wheels, not even attempted to pack it as it looks far too small for all my stuff... the one good thing about it is it zips open at the front...... saving you from digging down into an open top bag!

If anyone has any other suggestions it would be good. It also would be helpful to hear from anyone that has the Berghaus Jalan 65 litre and if it done the job for them!

Hope this helps you a little

back packs with wheels weigh a ton... so if you're worried about having to carry the weight around i wouldn't bother

Hey,

I have a 60 + 10L backpack and i have a years visa for Oz.

I havent attempted to pack yet but have been advised this size would be fine and any bigger some hostels can get funny with!

Im literally packing the essentials and buying shampoo, cond, suncream all the heavy bits when i get there.

Also try looking for a micro towel if you considered using a normal one and wiat until you get out there to buy a beach towel.

Once your sorted you can always get another back and leave stuff when you go home

I'm taking a 65 l backpack and a 20l day pack- but my 65l is so empty i can fit my day pack inside it- it really depends on the person and how much you'r eprepared to carry

it depends how much you're willing to carry - if you don't mind a really heavy backpack then take a bigger one.

i have a 65L backpack for 6 months and i am determined not to fill it up, i probably will though!

mine is 70litres after packing everything it weighs about 15kgs which is too much to carry , so now need to go through and really be brutal about stuff.

Def don't fill up your backpack!!! - I think anything up to 70litres is ok but yeah as long as you can carry it with all your stuff in (I cant with mine )!!

I read somewhere that you should be able to pick your pack up with one hand and shake it around, otherwise you've packed too much, but i think you can go too extreme with weight saving
