 Solo travel round Africa

Hey, I'm planning a 3 month trip round Africa as part of my gap year and I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I'm looking into travel round either SA, Botswana and Namibia, or Malawi, Tanzania and another country which I haven't decided on. If anyone has any tips on the kind of budget I'll need, how to get around these places, any independent charities I can get in touch with for volunteering, what solo travel is like for women in this region...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've travelled round Europe before but I've never travelled by myself :S

Thanks a lot!

Emma

Hi Emma,

I've just finished 5 months volunteering and backpacking round Africa! Been to all the countries you mentioned. I recommend Uganda and Zambia as the best ones I went to!!! I volunteered with the Baobab orphanage in Bagamoyo Tanzania. Africa can be cheap if you live like a local, but safaris etc are very expensive as are other activities like white water rafting etc. I travelled some parts on my own completely and I was fine.

Any more info, message me, happy to help!

Helen
