 Unwanted male attention

PostPosted: Sun Oct 18, 2009 10:33 am Reply to Message Reply with quote

Hi everyone,

I'm contemplating going travelling on my own to Australia and New Zealand. I have spoken to a few people who have been there and done it but one of my friends told me she got a lot of unwanted male attention whilst travelling. In her words, she was "preyed on".

The thought of travelling on my own already makes me feel a little vulnerable and was wondering if any other ladies on here have experienced this on their travels. If so I'd be very grateful if you could tell me how you dealt with the situation. Are lone female travellers a target?

Looking forward to receiving some much needed reassurance
Helena xx

Sorry to jump on this being a guy!

When you travel alone, gender doesn't matter. The only way to make friends is by talking to people. So you are going to get a lot of attention regardless. I could understand your concern if you was going to say Africa for example. But in Australia and New Zealand i can't see any room for concern. You won't be on your own for long. You'll make new friends quickly.
Is it getting sleazed on you don't like? If so just stay clear of clubs!
You'll be absolutley fine.im sure.

yeah i can't see much trouble in oz or nz as there very western countries , i went to south america and that was a total different story you are looked at like a peice of meat , being tall and blonde i stood out but tbh it didn't bother me in the least after a couple off weeks i had learnt to ignore the stares and keep walking when guys declared there love for me hahaha and guys would get confused and be like does all this staring not annoy you, i could honestly say after awhile i didn't even notice it .

so i really wouldn't even worry about it in the slightest i say walking down a street in oz or nz you wont stand out at all .

Nah, don't worry about it, Oz and New Zealand are very western countrys. Should be fine, just use common sense the same as you would at home!

If you get into any trouble, hjust do what I did last time I had some, "unwanted atention"

I just kneed the guy where it hurts the most.

I had to see him every day at college, and after this he never bugged me again.
