General question about bank accounts etc

Hey everyone,

I currently have an HSBC visa card which I understand would charge me for every withdrawal (around 3% I think I read). I have read that it is better to get a Nationwide or even an Abbey account however I'm unsure if I will get approved for these and I have fairly limited time (I leave in 5 and a half weeks). However my travel companion is in the process of obtaining a Nationwide account. Any suggestions? Should I apply for one of these or I could just transfer money to my friends account and get him to withdraw it from his nationwide account (if he gets it!)?

Thanks,

Steve

Yeah, 5 1/2 weeks should be plenty of time. You're friends at the moment but travelling can put a strain on any relationship, or you may just decide to seperate to do your own thing for a few hours/days/weeks. You need to make your own plans. Definitely Nationwide is the answer, Abbey have their Zero Credit Card which could be useful but their bank account will charge through the nose.
