 Money for Food?

I'm planning a worldwide trip next year, but i'm not too sure about my food budget, can you please give me your advice?

I plan on a light breakfast (yoghurt from the supermarket, pastry, fruit etc.) lunch from a street vendor or a picnic, and a cheapish dinner, but still something nice, and a bottle of cheap wine a few times a week in Europe, or a beer or two a few times a week in Asia (although i've read about cocktails in the Greek isles, are they pricey?). I'll have cheaper days (in the UK i'm with family, and in France i have an apartment so i'll be cooking some days) and splurging on a nice dinner occasionally, but here's what i'm thinking on average...

England, Scotland, Wales - 20 pounds per day
Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Greece - 20 euros per day
Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam - The equivalent of $10 US per day
Russia and Poland - I'm unsure of the currency and rates, so any help here?

Thankyou!

Hi Michelle,

I know it's tricky with different exchange rates but i usually stick to about £100 a week. Some days you might be in hostels that give free breakfasts and other days have lunch included in your day trip so it'll vary a lot but that's my rough estimate.

I think most people don't work out a seperate budget for food as it is far too random and subjective a figure, even on a daily basis

Most however work out a rough average daily budget for each country which normally will include things like hostel accomodation, food, localised transport, museum entry fees. These figures are widely publicised .

In addition to the above you would treat flights, long distance land transport, and major additional activities (e.g sky diveing) seperately

Hi Kenny,

That's what I'm planning to do, but to do that i will need to know approximately how much I'll need for food :P Plus in a lot of places I have accommodation already organised (staying with family, renting an apartment, long term stay in a volunteers house with an organisation), so I won't need to include that in my daily budget.

Also, does anyone know about food costs in Antigua, Guatemala?
