Hey guys,

I'm Hoping to find a job in a bar/nightclub in australia perferbly in Northern Eastern australia (Whitsunday) area. I'm Canadian and turning 20 in febraury and also have bartending experience.

I was just wondering how tough would it be to make this happen. Should I find clubs there and email them a resume?

Any tips?
Thanks

Depends what time of year, mate.

You'll find less work generally in wet season, which is late October-ish through to April-ish.

You'll also need to get your Queensland Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate, so you'd probably best go to a city (Bris or Cairns) or at least a larger town than Airlie first in order to sit the course. You may find an RSA course in Airlie or Proserpine though, so dig around online.

You can't work with booze without getting the RSA certificate, and lots of employers won't employ waiters/glass collectors etc without it either.

Read more here.

Remember also that each state in Oz has different liquor laws, which means that any RSA course you take in one state may not be valid in another.

Yeah i'm planning on landing in OZ around March. Could I do the course online then send out a resume along with the certificate? My original plan was to work in a club and work my way up to being a house dj, so I geuss I would have to start small.
