Applying for student loans/accomodation when on a gap year |

| Hi guys,
I have deferred entry to uni for 2010 but i set of on my travels Feb 2010 and wont return until July. I am wary that if i dont apply for my loans/accomodation i will recieve my loan late and miss out on staying on campus in my first year. Does anyone have any idea exactly how i go about applying before or who to inform that i will be travelling and will need to apply online or have my parents sign the forms. I have rang the uni already who put me through to the accomodation department who seemed shocked i was ringing so early in the year and just said i should apply when i get back. But this just doesnt seem right to me alot of my friends went to uni this year and got told its first come first serve basis with the accomodation on site. And obviously i'd prefer not to get my loan through late...one of my mates applied late and has to live on a £250 overdraft for 2 months...its not going well. Thanks! |

| hi- I'm in the same situation- student finace are a bunch of gays... all I can say is I know a few friends who only found out on results day where they were going and thus were applying for student finance/accommodation at the end of august... my plan is to keep ringing student finace until they finally get their arses in gear... | |

| Yeah i know you woud think that no one ever takes a gap year the way their acting. I finally got a email response from Newport uni who told me the complete opposite from the women from the accomodation department!
They said i will get a letter through the post my parents then have to email me to tell me to email the uni to say i still want to stay in halls and that my parents will be filling out the forms for me as i am going travelling. They then told me to get in contact with my local student loans department which ive yet to do but cant find any info online about it. However from what my mates have told me who have started this year and applyed on time for their loan they still havent got theirs through so i might just apply late and maybe i'll get it on time it seems they work backwards there haha. |
