So I am currently booked to fly into Perth on the 8th March and fly out to Auckland on the 20th April from Brisbane.

I have so far organised flying into Melbourne on the 25th of March for the Formula 1 on the sunday but other than that, i have nothing planned!

I have travelled the east coast from brisbane-cairns before and have been to sydney and would prefer to travel up the west coast this time but travelling alone rules out the best option of hiring a campervan and the fact i have to be in melbourne just over two weeks later means im not sure if i would have long enough to do the perth-broome/darwin distance justice. I would quite happily do the east coast again but wonder whether it would feel more like an 18-30's holiday even more now that im slightly older. I would like to do the great ocean road but this shouldnt take more than a week.

I guess one of the best options might be todo perth-darwin after the F1 and to try and join someone else's campervan as tours seem to be much more expensive in the west, but how easy is it todo that?

My flights arent really an issue as i can change them, but what should i do?!

Anyway i know i have rambled on but other peoples thoughts would be appreciated

What flights are fixed and which can be changed? It sounds like a lot of travelling around by plane, but if you can get cheap flights it's not the end of the world. If you could get a cheap flight from Melbourne to Darwin or Broome or Perth then another flight to Brisbane, then that would be a good move.

I tried finding people to travel with in Perth, then flew to Broome and then ended up going on a tour as I still had no luck. I didn't have a mobile though so that made things difficult and I did just miss out on several car shares. There are loads of boards with people looking for and offer rides, it's just finding one which is still available and suitable for your timing.

BTW, make sure you book a hostel in Melbourne in plenty of time as they get booked up quick and double in price. I managed to get a dorm bed for $20 a night, but many went up to $40+. Better still they had cancelled my booking so gave me a free upgrade to my own room.
