fruit picking Aus sept - where to do it? |

| Hi,
I’ve done loads of research but I’m still in dire need of help! I will be in oz mid September I want to start fruit picking straight away for my 2nd WHV. Ideally I want to work in Southern Western Australia (as the north would be too hot and humid at that time- but if that’s were the work is please say) or in southern eastern Australia (as I intend to be in Sydney for New Year – not too sure about xmas yet but I digress!). Can anyone recommend any towns where they worked and enjoyed staying? Also I can’t find anything from people who have worked those months – will it be difficult to find a job given the current climate? Because I want to do as much before xmas as possible I would like to have a job (or area at least) set up for when I get there. Any help would be great! Cheers |

Fear not, mon amis. Late September is the best time to get down into Victoria, NSW and over to Tasmania to look for work. It's the very start of the peak picking season, which lasts though 'til around March. Read this: http://boards.gapyear.com//index.php?op=vt&c=4&f=45&t=248080&o=0#248113 Towards the end of my long post on there, there's info on where to go to pick fruit and when in Oz. This map also helps... 
Basically speaking, head above the blue line between April and early September, and head below the red line between mid September and March. As for towns down in south east Oz, you can't go wrong in Young, Shepparton, Griffith, and Mildura at that time of year. |
