 Pub work Uk 2010

Heading over to the UK/Europe in 2010. Considering doing Pub work. I know a few people who have done it and said its awesome, but I want more opinions. I know the hours are long and that but to me it sounds like fun.

I'm going by myself as well so I see it as a good way to meet people. Anyone else planning on doing or have done something similiar?

Hiya well i live in the UK (scotland/aberdeen to be precise) and i work in a pub/restaurant, you will find plenty of bar work when you get here, it's good to have some experience but jmost places will show you what your doing!! Clubs are good to work in but depending where you are be expected to work til 6/7am...

I spent 6 years running pubs, clubs and restaurants and would recommend working in this environment to everyone. Sure, the hours can be long, and the cash isn't excellent, but the atmosphere is what makes it worthwhile. One thing I will say is that it may be difficult to find bar work in the UK thanks to the current economy. Pubs are closing on average 9 a week (correct me if I'm wrong) and that is leading to unemployment for experienced bar staff. I'm not aiming to put you off here, I'm merely pointing out that it MAY be difficult. Experience goes a long way and, although I hate them, chains like Mitchell and Butler or JD Wetherspoon (worked for both, JDW were better to their staff but not managers) will probably be your best option as there is the possibility of transferring to over pubs within the chain. Good luck and I recommend Plymouth as a place to visit...

Plymouth has everything!!! We have the waterfront with it's great cultural history including the mayflower steps where the Pilgrim fathers left for America... We also have a lighthouse, a city centre filled with crap shops, Plymouth Argyle FC (Whoop) AND the moors on the other side of the city... So there . Oh, we also have the largest aquarium in the UK (apparently)...

On second thoughts, Plymouth isn't a great place to visit lol
