Ive got a good deal on a flight and need a smoker friendly centrally located hostel. Just me going and its my first time

Ive looked on hostelbookers and can appreciate their rating system but it would be nice to hear some personal recommendations

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I can't recomend any in the city sorry, but you should know it is also illegal to smoe inside a public building in The Netherlands as well.

For some random reason, that also included the coffee shops. You could by yor weed in them, bt you had to go outside to smoke it. (I think theyve changed that now though.)

Hve a great time, and if you get a chance, get out of the city and explore arond.

the flying pig hostel is meant to be nice, I haven't stayed there personally but I have friends who have and really love it.

I stayed at 'stayok' hostel there are many around the city, I stayed at the one by the river near the central monument, but the last time i went it has really gone downhill in the way of cleanliness and entertainment.

'flyingdutch' is right, no hostels will allow you to smoke inside and its illegal to smoke weed on the streets, it has to be done in the coffee shops but cos of the smoking in public places ban, we found at xmas last year that some of them wont allow tobacco and you have to use some artificial stuff for your joints.

its illegal to smoke weed on the streets,

Try telling them it's ilegal to smoke weed on the streets in Groningen, Sheesh! I got so high while waiting for my train to go and visit my grandmother.
It was quite funny, and I was only getting second hand smoke!

lol sounds like me in the coffee shops, all my friends were smoking except me but it didnt stop me finding a bottle of fizzy water that had exploded everywhere on our bus back to UK very funny - I must of kept everyone awake that night with the giggling.

The one time people did get away with smoking on streets was new years eve, you could smell it a mile off

I'm not really into the whole smoking weed thing.

Im Dutch, and it's kind of pretty standard for English people to come over on holiday and act like idiots.

I mean a few Dutch smoke it, but I bet the majority of people in the coffee shop were English? Am I right?

I dunno i think it was generally Europeans from neighbouring countries, quite a few Italians if I remember. I dont smoke it either, but didn't have much choice as they all wanted to go in and have a smoke. but i went for the city itself and hired a bike to get around which was a great idea.

I stayed at the Flying Pig a few years back which had an awesome bar that at the time you could smoke and drink in

It was the smaller of the two hostels in Liederspliene (spelling well off)

Not sure of the rules now

The Flying Pig. But there are two, make sure you book at the downtown one, cause there is one that is not as central. Wicked spot!

ahh I spent month and a half in dam last year, i was stayin with my ex tho.... he stayed right next to a hostel called stay okay, in Zeeburg.. kinda joined onto a cafe/resturaunt/theatre thingy called Studio K,

http://www.stayokay.com/index.php?pageID=3207&hostelID=356023

was packed every night, and the tram runs right past it, 15 min tram ride into the city or a 40 min walk...... not totally central tho... But they have other hostels closer into city, they look pretty clean n that

ahh memories i miss Dam

Incorrect.

You can smoke inside the Flying Pig (the one right near Centraal Station) and you can smoke in Bob's Youth Hostel. You can't smoke in your room but it's no problem in the communal areas.

ok maybe I should not of generalised as I said I hadnt been to flying pig but I know stayok didnt allow it! I am sure the whole smoking in public places thing puts a stop to this though...??
I maintain that certain cafes will not allow tobacco to be used for joints and you have to use this other stuff which appartantly is horrid

I stayed at the flying pig uptwon last nov. You can smoke indoors as long as it is in an enclosed area (this may have changed!). It was really good there, clean, friendly and a decent breakfast.
