Hi
Hurghada is lovely, fantastic for diving and not quite as tacky as Sharm yet. There are some great hotels although predominantly german run.
I stayed at the Grand Resory the first time and the intercontinental the second time. The Grand Resort was amazing byt the inter had its own beach, albeit man made.
There is another pretty resort outside Hurghada called El Gouna. They have a good AI hotel called the three corners.
Eating out of the hotel is really cheap, but as drinks mount up AI is probs a good option.
The locals in Hurghad love the british, they cannot do eniugh for you.
I did Cairo as you can see from my pic. That was awesome but very very hot, very busy and quite dirty. We did a 2 night trip to Cairo which was an 8 hour coach joruney. You have to enter Cairo in a convoy if by coach so takes a lot longer. The journey home was on 6 hrs.
I am such a big fan of Egypt and after my gapyear may look at dong a seaon there.
Enjoy.
