 No more Cooks-Fiji flights?

I was looking for information on the Cook Islands when I came across this site http://www.cookislandsnews.com/local.htm#17

Seems the weekly Air New Zealand flight between the Rarotonga and Nadi will come to an end on October 27th of this year. From what I gather, there are no other airlines that use this route so it looks like you can't get from one to the other by plane anymore. That's a bit annoying for me since I was hoping to use the flight between the two countries on my RTW journey, probably in mid November! I suppose there's the option of LA-Cooks-NZ-Fiji-Oz (i.e. swap Nz and Fiji around) so it's not all doom and gloom I suppose. Do you reckon this will about the same?

I will also be ringing to sort this out as i may make it i may not , well done for spotting this. surely our travel agents should of made us aware. luckily they are not open right now as otherwise my bad mood would be taken out of them.

You've already booked them? That's a bit annoying, hopefully they'll give you the option of changing your route to accommodate this. You never know, you may get some sort of compensation deal 'for the inconvenience' (5-star Fijian hotels anyone?!) Couldn't you go to Fiji/Cooks first, then on to NZ then on to the other one?

im sure that there is a way round this, im just pissed that the airline made the annoucement on the 18th of june and it is nnow 8 days later and people who this affect have not been notified. If they try and charge for extra mileage, i will be after them with my nail gun

well given my history with global village i.e. my flights being cancelled and me not being notified, im not surprised i havent been told. i shall be going to the airline directly, i wouldnt trust global village to sort this out for me!

im on the phone now to the airline but because my agent put random dates in so i can change them as i need to, he put in the day before the changes so the airline are satying that i will be unable to change. its too early in the morning for people to be annoying me

uh oh thats gonna be the same for me. why cant airlines understand rtw tickets?! they make up the rules of not booking more than 11 months in advance yet make us feel like we are being trouble when we query our rtw flight! im not even going to attempt to ring them up today as im in quite a crappy mood anyway

that doesnt sound feasible if your doing the USA last, as your back tracking which you cant do on a rtw ticket.

I think that as long as you are booked after the date change and you have booked before the 19th June 2007 then you will be rerouted via auckland at no extra charge, i think the problem with mine is that i booked on the last flight between the two so if they go to change the flight the computer says no and as im making the amendment after the booking i am likely to be charged.
