Hi guys,

Posts of the Cook Island messgae boards don't seem to get many replies so fingers crossed this does! I am due to go to the Cook Islands in March next year. I have been reading up (cant remember which guide) but from the impression i get you have to fly to all the other islands. being on a budget i dont want to see this!

Is my guidebook giving me the wrong impression?! and can anyone recommend a good one? I dont want to stay on the main islands for two weeks! I ll be bored!! HELP!

I had a look in to this a while ago and from what i remember there is a monthly ferry between Aitutaki and Rarotonga but that’s about it.

Hi,

Went to Cook Islands in March 2008. I believe this is the "quiet" season but it's the rainy season. Anyway, we managed to get a special fair with air rarotonga each way for $75. Later we told few people at Vara's and they were able to get away from Rarotonga as well for $75 each way. To get this fair you need to ask the airline around 1-3 days in advance when you intent to leave. So you need to be flexible and be prepared to pay the full fare if you can't get the special fare on the way back. Not sure if this still applies but thought I'll let you know anyway.

On a side note, I thought a trip to Aitutaki is a must if you're in Rarotonga. It's like heaven! Best beaches. I didn't like Rarotonga, too touristy and perhaps that's coz I my last country before Cooks was Fiji! There are also things to do in Aitutaki. Definitely recommend a cruise in Aitutaki. I did two, Kia Orana and Kings. Thought Kia Orana was brilliant.
gone on quite a bit there.
