 India - internal flights

Hey everyone,

I've just found out I've got a place on the Study India scheme so I'll be off to Delhi for three weeks in August, which I'm ridiculously excited about.

I need to have proof of my flights by the 17th July though or I lose my place ... so I have been hunting around for cheap deals and Dialaflight quoted me £329 return (London-Mumbai, Delhi-London). First question: does this price sound reasonable? I think it's with Jet Airways; are they okay?

Secondly, I have vague plans to fly in a bit earlier than the scheme starts, and visit Children Walking Tall, the charity in Goa that I volunteered at two years ago. It's really the internal flights that are confusing me; I got quite a few internal flights last times I was away but I can't remember how I went about it so I need some help! Am I able to book them myself now, using a UK credit/debit card? I have a feeling that some flight companies don't accept this. Also, how much should I be expecting to pay for the two internal flights (Mumbai-Goa, Goa-Delhi)? When I mentioned this to the guy at Dialaflight he supposedly added these flights on to the quote and then the price shot up to £468, which seemed slightly pricey ... or am I just being cheap? Should I book them myself or let Dialaflight organise the whole thing (I think I know what the answer's going to be but it'll be reasurring to hear it!).

Thanks a lot ...

Amber.

Jet Airways are good, yeah. That's not a bad price either.

You can get midweek fares with Kingfisher Airlines (cheap and good domestic airline in India) in August for those routes you've mentioned from under £45 all inc for Mumbai to Goa, and £77 all inc for Goa to Delhi. So that's about £120 in total.

Your Dial-a-flight quote isn't too far off. Make sure your baggage quote is sufficient on the fares they've quoted you, and that you won't have to pay a supplement at the airport.

Thanks! What do you mean about the baggage quote though? I'm a bit confused and hoping that I won't have to pay extra ... I just assumed that the price included everything?

Yeah, it probably will. But if those internal flights are with a low cost airline like Kingfisher, just make sure that they give you 20ish kgs as standard, because many only give you 15kgs. Basically, you could end up with a lower baggage allowance for your shorthaul flights than you do for your longhaul ones if it's a different airline. But then, you might only be taking 15kgs anyway. That's all I meant.

Ohh okay ... that's actually very simple, oops! Thanks for the advice; I'm actually hoping my bag won't weigh anywhere near 20kg, but then you never can tell ...

I know internal flights have been done to death but i'm not sure whether i should book my flights now, or whether it will be ok to do it easily an just as cheaply when i am there..?

I want to fly from Delhi to trivandrum around the 5th of october but to keep some flexibility i would rather wait until nearer the time...

it is around £75 with air india for me and my girlfriend at the moment. how likely is it to go up, and, or be unavailable if we wait until the week before for example?

any advice would be great
