I'm filling in a visa application form i downloaded off a company called VFS (http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/index.aspx) - are they an approved Visa company?

the form seems different to what other epople are talking about on these boards, hoping i've got the right one/

I'm asked to give two referees for me in the UK, and 2 in India...but I don't know anyone in India??!!

Yeah, that's definitely the right place. It doesn't clearly tell you what to do but it does mention "Please write NA, (Not Applicable) for any fields on the visa application form that is not applicable to your application." I would put a couple of family members in the UK referee section in case of emergency and put N/A in the India section. This website confirms this:-

"STEP 8: VAF Details

Please complete all the entry box questions in the “VAF Details” page. Below are some important guidelines on particular entry box questions.

1. For “Previous/other name”, please put NA

2. For “issuing authority”, this information is usually located in the picture page of your passport and is likely to be either UKPA or IPS for UK passport holders.

3. For “UK Referees”, these can be persons that you would want contacted in the case of an emergency.

4. For “India Referees”, you can include the details of your India accommodation. If you have no accommodation booked, then please put NA."
