Hey, i'm going to India in a couple of months, these are the places i want to visit and the order i want to visit them in. I'm planning on spending one month in India.

New Delhi -> Jaipur -> Agra -> Varanasi -> Calcutta -> Kakarbhitta (Nepal)

Is there anything near this route i should take into consideration?
Should i include Rajasthan? Is Calcutta worth seeing?
And is one month enough?

If you are up by Kakarbhitta why not stop in darjeeling for a cup of tea?

I'm heading out to India in just under 5 weeks and will be doing a route similar to yours for the first 4-6 weeks before heading south. Rajasthan will be taking up about 2 weeks of that because from what I have heard it is well worth it.

Are you travelling alone?

Theres not much reason to Calcutta. Thats what I hear from everyone who's been, and also my friend who comes from there.

Also, don't spend to long in Delhi! It will drive you crazy! A day, maybe 2 is enough, especially if your on your own.

Jaipur is good to see, but again you don't have to spend long there. A day and a half was enough for me. Don't miss the monkey temple at sunset.

Same applies to Agra, a day is enough. There is a lot of hassle from touts there, so just see the Taj Mahal and get out is my advice.

In Rajistan there are some great places to visit. Udaipur is a really good place to linger for a few days. Jaisalmer is also fantastic- if you do a camel safari for 2 or 3 days. That was by far my favourite thing in India.

Also as you have a bit of time, consider getting to Hampi. It's fantastic.

Hey Martin,

personally, i feel that one month isn't long enough to spend in India. I went last year for 3 1/2 months..and even that wasn't long enough (thats why i'm going back at the end of october )

I agree with Ben that there isnt a great deal to do in Calcutta..and a day in both Delhi and Agra is long enough! I would definately go to Jaisalmer and go on a camel safari..imagine sleeping on the sand under a star-lit sky. It was one the most amazing moments in my life! Pushkar and Udaipur in Rajasthan are beautiful places. If you can extend your time in India I would include Kerala, where you can cruise on a longboat on some of its 41 rivers. The train system is amazing out there and you can travel around the country efficiently. If you wanna chill out south Goa is the place to go..Palolem is a gorgeous village with a palm tree lined beach..and Konkani people are some of the nicest ive ever met!

There is so much to see in India, and you'll never fit it all in in one trip but of course you can always go back like mee...I'm not excited at alll hehe!
