I so so so want to do the Rickshaw Rally but unfortunately the 3 dates clash with my exams and uni ... has anyone done it? Would it be possible to do it off my own back ie rock up in India, buy a Rickshaw and follow a similar route but in late June/July/August time? Would there be issues with climate around this time?

Thanks guys! Hannah xxx

Have you looked at the rickshaw run?

I don't know if those dates make a difference. Suppose it will depend if your exams are before or after xmas. If you start uni in late September you might be able to go on the Autum tour as it only takes two weeks.

I signed up for one of the tours before but pulled out when I realised that I could just do it myself. It ended up with my friends that were going to come all pulling out so the idea never came to fruition.

Buying a rickshaw is possible but it won't be cheap. Your other main concern would be paperwork and paying a lot of police bribes (baksheesh). Also, if anything happens, your on your own out there. If you are going to do it then try and get at least one other person to do it with you.

Basically, it is possible but it won't be cheap or easy. It would probably be easier to do something similar but in Thailand instead. Then you could try and sell the rickshaw to other backpackers when you are done. Indian backpackers are generally skint so it'll be difficult to sell there. Thailand has loads more "daddy paid for my trip" types who would be more willing to part with their cash in search of a bit of an adventure.

I've never heard of this but looking into it, it look AMAZING!

I think i'm going to have to do that at some point! I didn't think it was too expensive either. If you can get 3/4 people on board....£1000 to charity + £895 entry fee + £100 petrol + repairs = say £500/600 each. You can camp out and just slump it....as thats the idea of the adventure really lol.

I'm going to keep an eye on this, and maybe see if i can rack up a team some day
