Hey mate,

It depends on your budget... the thing about Brazil is that you can pay R$20,00 or R$7,00 for the same meal... same same same!

Let me give you a little picture here:

16,000.00 GBP = 48,619.16 BRL

The minimum wage in Brazil is R$ 465,00.... So I guess you can make it ;)

If you want I can give you the price for some basic items so you can calculate better... let me know what products or services you would like to have in this list.

Regards,

Dan

I should think so!

Are you staying in Brazil the whole time, or moving around South America?

are you planning to work there?

You definately need to book accomodation and tickets for carnaval well in advance, especially if you want to be in Rio and go to the Samba parade - i went last Febuary and we had our apartment sorted by July last year. Its amazing and definately something i would recommend! Prices shoot up around Carnaval so dont expect that the rest of the year will cost you as much as that week! Carnaval is just one big party and you can do it fairly cheap compared to what what we'd spend it the UK. The street parties are free, you can buy beers on the street and party the night away - the only problem is you will start in one part of the city and by the end of the party you'll be in a completely different place, lots of fun with some amazing people, enjoy

We are going to Carnaval in 2010. Already have got our accomodation sorted for the period of the Carnaval. Most hostels only offer 6 days minimum, or hire an apartment as lots of people too. It was £48 ish a night, just for a dorm, so its really pricey, hopefully around 5 or 6 times as much as I'll be paying for the rest of the time in South America!

I've read that you can buy tickets on the street on the day for cheaper, or from the hostel so we haven't sorted that out yet. Not sure if this is good advice tho!!
