Buenos Aires to Rio...AND MORE GENERAL S.A. ADVICE?!?!?!

PostPosted: Thu Sep 17, 2009 11:56 am Reply to Message Reply with quote

Hi,

In january I am going to S.America for 3months. I am starting in Buenos Aires 16th January and will probably stay there for around 7 days...bringing me up to 23rd January. I have no idea about places to go, what to see. From Buenos Aires I then need to travel to Sao Paulo for 7th February (to meet a friend). And from Sao Paulo I need to go to Rio for the 11th Feb where I have a hostel booked.

So basically I have around 15days to get from B.A. to Sao Paulo...any route recommendations?! Where should I go, what to see? My friend and I plan to do Igazu AFTER Rio so we don't want to include that. I'm thinking possibly go through Paraguay. Where else to look in Argentina except BA?

After Rio we plan to travel gradually to Lima where we leave around 30th April...any ideas? I was thinking Iguazu, then Bolivia and then Peru? Anything to specifically look at? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL...I'm so clueless about the best placves to visit in S.A.

Thanks,

Emily

Hi

Im flying to Buenos Aires in 3 weeks to meet a friend who is travelling Chile, Peru etc now...
Ill be able to give you a much better idea over teh next couple of weeks by which time we would have finalised places, timings etc. Iguazzu falls is the obvious one and we are also thinking of doing the odd day trips to Paraguay and Uruguay.

Are you planning on going to Patagonia in Southern Argentina? That as well as the Glacier National parks etc looks amazing

To be honest we are spending only 10 days or so in Argentina and 6 weeks in Brazil so dont have much time in Argentina at all... What about visiting the Pantanal ?

Not sure if this helps but like I said should know a bit more over the next few weeks
Cheers
Dave

i'm planning a south america trip at the mo and one of my good mates has already been there. Yeh def check out the Pantanal like the last guy says, plus if you fancy venturing south a bit in Arg the Lake District looks wicked. Bolivia looks a better shout than Paraguay to me....dirt cheap too!

Oh and what I meant to say is going through URAGUAY on the way to Sao Paulo, rather than Paraguay?

Hola

Uruguay sounds like a good plan to me. It will be the height of summer when you are there and the coast there is pretty lively and good fun. Montevideo is a pretty good city with a great nightlife at weekends and a small town called Colonia Del Sacramento is well worth a stop.

I have not been to Paraguay myself, but it would be worth a visit if you want to get away from the tourists and feel like a novelty in a foreign city.

Just wondering why you are going all the way to Rio and then back to Iguazu. Are you aware that an 18 hr bus journey is involved?

I'm normally 100% into pushing people to seeing new and 'different' places, but if you're only spending a couple of weeks in South America, don't go to Paraguay. It's not the greatest place you could visit, Uruguay is a much better place, in my eyes.

I had a wicked time in Uruguay.

I know, it's very annoying that I have to go BACK to Iguazu from Rio...but I am meeting a friend on 7th Feb in Sao Paulo who wants to do Iguazu. We have a hostel booked in Rio on 11th Feb, so have no time to do Iguazu then

It's a shame, as it would have been easier to do it on the way from Buenos Aires. Thanks for all the advice.
