 Spanish course in S.America?

PostPosted: Sun Nov 1, 2009 8:36 am Reply to Message Reply with quote

Hey, i travel round S.America for 3 or 4 months, maybe longer if i find work, from Match 09.

I did an introductory Spanish speaking course at nightschool last winter, but have forgotten much of it now!

Thinking about doing a 3-4 day Spanish course in Chile or Argentina (i fly in to Santiago) - are there any places people can recommend??

Hello James,

Me and my girlfiend did a Spanish intensive course a few months back in a really nice place in Chile called Pucon, its maybe 6-8 hours by bus souht from Santiago and its called Language Pucon. Our reason for picking this place was the live in option. We lived with an incredible family who knew no English so we were forced to learn ~quickly, improving much faster than if we had stayed in a hostel where the chosen language to speak is unfortunately usually English.

I would highly recommend the weeks course and the weeks live in, costing around 200 pounds with all meals included its well worth the effort. Good luck.

Andrew

that's brilliant advice, thanks man, i'll look into that. At the end of the day, it'll be useful for the rest of my life so it should be worth the money.

How was your Spanish by the end of the week, and for the rest of your stay in S.America?

Hello mate, As you said it will be useful for the rest of your life! I think doing the homestay is the most beneficial part of the learning process as your forced to speak and forced to pick things up quickly (for us it was more enjoyable this way than a chore).

by the end of the week we were well on our way to understanding conversations, being able to ask for pretty much what we wanted and we got the hang of present, past and future tenses but most of all it was our confidence levels that had risen. Now we're still in South America and learning more as we go and getting by fine.

Good Luck and enjoy.
