hey I was born there so I kind of know the country even though I moved to the US when i was a teenager.
Let me know what you want to know about the ph hmpf00@Hotmail.com find me on on facebook.. I use it more often than GY.

Quick note: The philippines is divided in 3 major island groups. Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. If you want to see nature stuffs go to any region in Visayas. Luzon is a bit modern and crowded (depending on where you go but it's mostly crowded in manila- the capital) Mindanao is traditional and majoriy of the muslim people in the ph lives there. I say avoid some parts of mindanao especially basilan. I will give you more infos about that.

Some of the greatest things in the ph: Mayon volcano, taal volcano, pangasinan hundred islands, rice terraces, chocolate hills, boracay (jesus christ don't go here it's filled with tourist lol) Palawan, tubataha reef. .etc .etc.

Also, some of my former high school classmates can guide you when you get there. My friend who is a studnet chef is in Cebu (coo province in visayas) she can help you around. Most of the people I know lives in Manila.

so yeah, email me

Hi,

What will you be doing while there in the Philippines? I am looking to meet others who are going to the Philippines to work, or volunteer, or those who have been there already and have returned, and who don't mind sharing their experiences. I would like to work there next year, but am currently still looking for opportunities to work with a company that will allow me to teach English, which I have not been having much success in finding at the moment. I wanted to get some practical experience in it, like over a summer, while I am still working on my degree. I am specifically looking for a program that will provide a small salary, which might offset expenses while there. Haven't located one yet that does the Philippines.

I want to go to the Phillipines too - probably be the end of 2010 or start of 2011 by the time I get there!
I don't know about teaching English to be honest, and as I've not been I don't really have a lot to tell you!

My friend LOVED the Phillipines though, he spent a long time there, and he did some volunteering for this company, which he swears by - http://www.visayans.org/

I've met quite a few Phillipino (sp?!) people, and they all spoke very very good English, were very friendly and chatty!
