Hiya, im heading out to sydney and land on the 22nd of Jan. im staying there for just over a week. I have a rough plan - will no doubt all change once im there but...

I was planning on heading down to Melbourne beg of Feb and look for work around that area to gain the 2nd whv so looking for fruit picking work down about there - am i going down at the right time of the yr or would i be better off elsewhere?
So ideally looking to stay in Melbroune for a couple of months.

Around April time i was thinking I would head up to Brisbane and can do trips and things from there, hopefully get some more work to fund my travels and am i right in thinking the weather in brisbane will be fine around that time of hte yr - its generally warm all yr aint it?

From there will head to cairns and from there was going to head to Darwin stay there and explore that for a couple of weeks then start my way down the west coast - so say i started going down the west coast around August time - is that okay time of the yr im not going to be hitting a wet season or anything like that?

Still a bit confused about how to get around at the best times of the yr i dont want to be stuck in the cold or in rainy seasons wherever i am - i do expect the od shower and winds etc but i dont wan tot be somewhere thats like that every day because imt here at the wrong time.

Also does anyone know of any good tours for doing the west coast? im also thinking of hiring a campervan/buying a campervan whatever is cheapest to get my way around the west?

i seen this tour...http://www.letstrekaustralia.com/tours/WEP.html#tour-info-0

anyone done that type of thing?

Im just looking for a rough route as si said this may well all change once im there but i just wanted an idea..think ive babbled on long enough now!!

Hey Ash, i think the general rule is that when its summer in the south its the wet season in the tropics (broome, cairns etc..)
Im planning on getting to Perth around mid April/May then make my way up to Exmouth to swim with the whalesharks
Ive got some links in my 'favourites' at home i'll get them posted later!

its really cold in perth around that time though which is why i dont want to be going there that time of the year. hmm i dunno!! i do want to see the whalesharks though would be awesome!!

yeh when winter in south its hot and dry up in the north. so there winter months is between april-sept those are the cooler months anyways!!

Ah why do adverts appear in the middle of threads I cant see anything! Oh I can now im replying lol

Heres a good link to the seasons http://www.cultureandrecreation.gov.au/articles/weather/

Yeah so Im hoping to be in Exmouth between April and May for when the whalesharks are there and hopefully Manta Rays too! http://www.ningalooreef.net/exmouth/whalesharks.html
Travelling up there from Perth, it might be a bit cold but I figure something has to give unless I fly straight to the tropics, in fact yeah I'll do that! I'll fly from Tasmania to Geraldton if I can get a flight, bah but then I have to miss out Margaret River and Bunbury in the South West DOH! I just dont think a year is long enoug to see it all! That will have to be done the 2nd year as after Exmouth Im going up to Broome then across to Darwin via Kakadoo, all could change of course and probably will!!!

Oh yeah heres a good link with some info aboutr what to see on the West Coast..

hey,

im planning/ attempting to see both eat and west in 8weeks and as it stands, that would basically be october and november...

what do you reckon the weather will be like as i just cant figure it out, plus i dont know where would be wiser to start....!!!

as we want to also see ayers rock, im thinking maybe start in perth, head up to darwin, then down the middle, then work our way up and fly out from cairns...but how does this work weather wise in those two months???

plus im worried about travel on the west coast im really nervous of the idea of me driving (ill be 22) but its either that or pay like £400-500 for a one way bus ticket between perth and darwin!!!
thats the same cost as a 6-months unlimited train ticket for most of the rail network out there, crazy!
