the west coast- any other options besides driving or the greyhound bus?!?!?

OK.

my boyfriend and i really want to visit the west, but im finding it difficult as getting around doesnt seem so easy??

im the only one who can drive, ill only be 22 so i dont feel confident enough to take on the responsibility of driving/ hiring etc in my trip (and the fact if its just us and i get tired and need rest etc)

my only other options appears to be the greyhound bus pass...a ticket from perth-darwin is $849, at todays rate thats £470....i dont think i can justify paying that for a ONE WAY bus ticket...does anyone else agree?
the reason i say that is i can also get a Austrail 6-month unlimited train travel pass for the rest of the country, for just £30 more!!!!! making the bus pass seem even more expensive and a rip off....

advice from anyone whos been there/ done this on what i should do!?!?!?!
